i envy-dixit bhatta

I envy the morning that wakes me
From the dream of yours
I envy the sunlight that makes you
Hide behind the moon
I envy the chirping of the birds
That stops your sweet voice

The glistening moon
And its light that falls
And reflects from your radiant visage
And Shines in my eyes

Your face that blooms like a flower
A lotus floating in the pond
and drops of rain that sticks to the petals
In the drizzling sound of rain

I envy the azure sky
That clears the cloud
it stops drizzling
And stops the melodic sound

demise - dixit bhatta

Demise
Open the window, let the light fall upon
Behold her closed eyes
Stop the noise
Let the silent heart rest inside

Let not your eyes filled
And you try not to wail
The angels have arrived
Its now time for her to sail

Let the door open
Make the way
Not the impediments come through
She has to sail far, far away

Set free from the world
You are now dear love
Spread your wings
Sail into the air, dear love

Good bye, dear love
For the eternal time
And I know time cannot turn back
For the last time, I wish you could smile

Eternal sunshine-dixit bhatta

Sleepless nights
And darkness falling over
These wide open eyes
Waiting for a ray, but never

every breadth inhaled
Gives the intolerable heat
Pierces the heart
The sound of every incessant beat

Silence of the nights
Has been frightening,
And the engraved words with in
For Eons it’s been ailing

And I’m still waiting for the night
When I could sleep
Wake up and open my eye
in the light of the eternal sunshine

Nirnaya Da NSK Utters...

Exclusive Unedited Version

Nirnaya Shrestha a.k.a. Nirnaya DA NSK(Naughty Soul Kid) is manily known as the rap singer of Nepali music but he is Senior RJ at Image Channel and also designed the layout of Sajilo.com. He has released a solo album and the second one is in the pipeline which has been just named Mechi Dekhi Mahakali, he was a part of Rappers Union that had made three albums public in the past. He returned from the USA in 1992 and started RJing as a hobby and says that it is still a part-time hobby. He had attained some music knowing in the school days but without doubts he can be termed as one of the best rappers in our country.

Last time someone called you Naughty Soul Kid (NSK)? Who

Ah… Yes just yesterday, two kids literally called me NSK hope they were my fans. I was just out of the photo shoot and the two kinds called my NSK the Naughty Soul Kid. It was nice to hear that.

Last time you watched bounce’s video on TV?

It’s been so long I last watched TV. It must be 2 months back I watched it on TV. Due to the busy schedule I have to leave home very early and land home late, so I don’t really get time to relax and watch TV.

Last time you thought you’ll go out without a shade and a cap?

Just today, as every Wednesday I go to a temple. Thereby today I’ll go to that temple which is near by Pashupati at Battisputali. I don’t really know the name of that temple as it is not so popular temple.

Last time you shot for a video?

A month ago, it was the video of a song from my next album which is named Mechi Dekhi Mahakali till now the song is called Lek Dekhi Besi. It was Nepal bandh, the song is a patriotic one which is based on andolan and the current scenario. This is an experiment I have tried this time.

Last time you thought you would direct a video?

Yes, a month back during the same video I thought I would direct a video though I don’t. As there was no option because there was no director, I, Prashna, Spot boy and camera men were only there so I thought of giving it a try.

Last time you thought of singing a different genre than Rap or pop?

Let me think…Last year I wanted to try a lok song. As it will be hard for me so I wanted to experiment singing a lok song. It would be of a different flavor and interesting to see if I could get that lok feeling.

Last time you thought of remixing one of your old tracks?

No such plans or thought but yes for this album I have arranged a song in two different versions. The song is named Naacha and it has two version one is a serious mix and another is a fun mix.

Last time you met an accident?

Road accident, ah… Around two weeks ago not a big one but a small one. I was in my car and it was a jam situation by mistake my touched the scooter ahead. The guy on the scooter and I were totally fine nothing serious happened.

Last time you were utterly surprised?

I haven’t been surprised for a long time…Wait. It as the day before yesterday, in the morning I woke up and to my surprise I had tonsils. In this hot season also I got tonsils it was surprising and now I have to carry my medicine with me to gargle.

Last time you were nervous on stage?

Nervous…There is always some nervousness on stage but nothing serious. I guess an interesting event was when in the last concert for the performance at ASMN mela as Prashna got sick and she couldn’t come so I was worried but then Nalina Didi performed with me. It was my first time performing with her and it was different as well as interesting.

Last time you debated over rap music or Nepali music?

Nepali Music, Just now in the studio we were talking about Rap Music. The recordist and a friend of mine were just joking that rap music is spoiling the current music scenario and I was defending rap music.

Last time got impressed by your own lyric?

Yes a song for this album, the song is Hami Sangai. In each of my albums there is a song with a story. There was Din Pani Bityo in Da Nepali Touch then Gaunle Jiwan in Ma Nepali and now it is Hami Sangai in which the girl and the boy meet. It was a challenging job I had to record it and re-record it to get the feelings of the song, though it was tough but I’m happy with it now.

Last time you waited for someone for a long time?

Yesterday, we had a photo shoot schedule for 11 but Prashna came to the shoot only at 1 o’ clock. It was a 10 person photo shoot but it went very well.

Last time you were out of your cell’s battery?

It was also yesterday, I had an extra battery but couldn’t find it when I needed it the most. After a while I found it in my bad and put it into use. Yesterday was a hectic one.

Last time you said “When will Nepal Improve”?

Just today, a friend of mine called from Hongkong. She wanted to come to Nepal in June but I suggested her to be her in December due to the current volatile situation. So then I said When will Nepal Improve.

Last time you gave an autograph?

It was after the video shoot at Samakhusi town planning. Lots of kids were there and I had to give autographs to each of them, it was fun.

Last time you watched news and said “Good News”?

It’s hard to remember, now a days News is rarely good. Its hard for me to watch news but yes I guess when Dr. Bhola Rijal released a single I liked the news. It is a change in the current trend of releasing albums and I liked that.

Last time you rode a cycle?

Cycle… Hum… Ha ha… (Giggles) Not exactly a cycle but I rode a rickshaw for the shoot of Lek Dekhi Besi. We parked the bike and we followed the Julus on a rickshaw it was ok.

Last time you relaxed at home watching movies?

Some days back, it was a bandh may be 20th or 22nd March. I stepped back and relaxed it was a relaxing day.

Last time you thought that you could release your album sooner?

I haven’t thought as such as I work sincerely. My previous album is still doing very well. But this time I want to release this album Mechi Dekhi Mahakali soon as it has time relevant songs.

Last Words:

Best wishes always, Study hard. Let’s all hope peace comes back to Nepal.

the world is flat- dixit bhatta

the world is flat

I’ve traveled through forest
across the ocean
up to the mountains
and down again to the land
I found the world is flat

I’ve been into the city
in the populated land
I’ve seen people with pain
and also people with empty heart
and I found the world is flat

I’ve seen the river flow
never to return back
people old and dying
never to become young
and I found the world is flat

Falling in Love - dixit bhatta

I used to not sit alone
In darkness of the room
Waking in the midnight
Spend it, watching the moon

My eyes were not wet
When a child would cry
Looking at the dead flower
I used to not sigh

I did not walk alone
Getting wet in the rain
With the sad ending of a film
I used to not feel the pain

Now, you’ve made me fall
In the deep ocean of love
My heart ripped apart
My feelings floating above

nothing seem to change- dixit bhatta

standing alone was I
in the city of glittering lights
there were people moving around
with their face smiling in delight

I couldn’t move forward
I was stuck with the time
and I thought, It’d be the same
years down the line

years of solitude
and I feel the same
when you’re not around
nothing seem to change

your eyes- dixit bhatta

your eyes
your eyes, are they epitome of nature
Or a heaven’s splendor

Ocean is not so deep
Like eyes of yours are
Universe does not have stars
filled with galaxies, your eyes are

your eyes are world’s glory
or nature’s boon
gives the light of sunshine
and soothes like the moon

your eyes can bring rain
in the desert place
daffodil blossom in winter
with glimpse of your face

a rainbow smiles, lookin at your eyes
a nightingale sings in the sky high
water freezes into ice
a mirror breaks feeling shy

Charity Show at Gurukul

Young Innovations Pvt. Ltd., an IT-Social company is going to organize charity drama show of “Tara Baji Lai Lai” at Gurukul, school of theater to support Blood Point Nepal, a humanitarian organzation on Jestha 19 2064 (June 2, 2007).Blood Point Nepal (BPN) is an not-for-profit organization which is workinga actively in the field of in the field of Fresh Blood Donation (FBD) keeping Donors stand by positions. It’s main goal is to provide the adequate fresh blood as per the demand in the national level jointly with Voluntary non-remunerated Blood Donors. Till date, BPN has provided more than 1,200 units of fresh blood, all donated by it’s 500 volunteer members, to needy patients during emergencies.

Every year Nepal faces shortage of blood. According to WHO standard, if a total of 2% population donates blood, there will be no shortage but only around a percent donates blood in Nepal. Nepal needs around 1,60,000 units of blood every year but in 2006, only 102,530-units of blood have been collected far short of WHO standard and it’s own need. In such situation, BPN is acting as ray of hope for many needy patients. But being volunteering organization, it’s becoming hard for BPN to continue it’s social activities and donating blood to save many patients.

Tara Baji Lai Lai, an improvisational play directed by Morten Crough is based on challenges we faced as children. Moreover, one can say this plays shows the realistic as well as the fantasy life of each individual’s childhood dreams and desires. Personal stories of actors enriched the development of the play.

Young Innovations has initiated the step to support BPN and help it continue its activities. Lets come together to make this event a grand success and show our solidarity. For tickets please contact 9841530659/98510073533.

young lass - dixitbhatta

young lass

Water drop from heaven
On the grasses green
And sunlight on it leavened
Giving beautiful soft sheen

Watching from window
Some drop stick to glass
And curtains billow,
I saw solitary lass

Drenched with water
And walking slow
On the face, hairs scatter
Her head held low

Dreams in her eyes
Expectation high
She lived in the world
Where angels fly

death of a poet- dixit bhatta

He cried in the silence of midnight
When the moon was young
The night was cold
And the dawn was at distance, long

Clouds were hovering in the sky
The moon hid behind with pity
Stars started to cry
The trees around felt sorry

A wind from outside swirled
Door made a creaking sound
The torn window veil billowed
Pile of dust above was disturbed

The lamp near was shattered
Leaving the debris of his dream
The pen beside him was empty
And a paper with incomplete poem

The lines were of hope
And of aspirant
for bringing the peace
In the country of ignorant

There was talk in the town
Next day, inside his body lied
In hunger and anguish, it was the night
The poet had died.

beggar's cry - dixit bhatta

When the storm heads the way,
And the hail comes down,
Searches a shelter to stay
But all efforts are blown

Dreams scattered
Hopes shattered
Wanders,
Around In the street

Ponders,
Why are some born poor?
And some rich
Some gets to sleep in delight
And some are left with endless night
Why
Some cry in torment
Some smile in enjoyment
Out cried in anguish
Oh god
Why did you distinguish?
Looks up to the heaven
Asking for reply
Heaven has no time
For beggar’s cry

the day i died- dixit bhatta

A bright light from distant
Pouring on me
My eyes dazzled
And nothing I could see

Breathe slowly losing
My heart throbbed painfully
Pulse start decreasing
And I fell down completely

A wind blew over my head
It was dry, very dry
Music played across, it was
Heard like a cry

Flowers around reek
Tears falling apart
With sudden silence of heart beat
my soul depart

love - dixit

Her eyes staring me
With love so sweet and pure
The innocent look on her face
Tempt me to fall in love, so allure

She closed her eyes and smiled
And walked to the place of mine
Started to talk and
I heard the tinkling sound of wind chime

A chill went down my spine
Face turned pale
Heartbeat rising
And I was out of words to exhale

My legs were shaking
I could not walk away
I started sweating
And saw everything turn gray

I saw the moon coming down
With stars along
Flowers flying around
And birds singing song

It was the day
Love had flown
Took my heart away
leaving me alone.

you seem like scenery-dixit

You seem like scenery

Like a mountain filled with snow

And Sun rising from behind

With a golden glow

You seem like scenery

Like a hill, where spring water flow

And cuckoo singing a song

Along side weeds grow

You seem like Scenery

Like a garden full of rose

And the fragrance in the air

Leaves the afterglow

a poem- dixit

Hair spread over the face,
Like sunray spread over horizon
And you pull them back to tie,
All my woes disappear, and I sigh

When I see those sparkling eyes,
And teeth accentuating your beauty,
it seems like stars arranged,
Embellishing the sky

Music flows in the air
When you start to talk
And the fragrance of your
Like Scent of musk.

The smile that reach your eye,
And you head down feeling shy
I see a glow on your face
Of the brightest sunshine.

An old man-dixit

Late January night, walking alone
I saw a man lying along
Grey hair and wrinkled eye
He seemed getting old

I stopped by him to behold
Dew drop all over his body
He was shivering with cold
He couldn’t walk coz he was getting old

He was as alone as moon above
Though stars around
But nobody close
For him to enfold

He had been through storm of hail,
and stood in the winter rain
He had passed the mournful days
Still he had nothing to complain

He gazed at the stars
And talked to the moon
He had nothing but,
A melancholy song to croon

He was blessed with pain
And his woes were his friend
Still he was waiting for spring
That was far away, on the other end

college days-dixit

looking at the watch on the wall
time ticking slowly on
it made me realize
that four years have gone.
it made me remember
how we together played
waited for the bus in the rain
and arriving to college late

chatting for long hours
sitting on the coffee shop down
planning for the future ahead
and the steps we should take on
it made me realize
time does not wait on

not completing project on time
requesting the teacher to increase deadline
getting nervous in the presentation
and forgetting the lines
it made me think
wish I could reverse the time

I’d miss those internals
that took our sleep away
cramming for the board
all night and day
taking part in all activities
expecting award on annual day
it made me think
if this was my first day

"I feel so Blue" - Dixit Bhatta

TV is on in my room

Glittering lights all around

A gentle breeze touches my ear

But still I feel so blue

Spring is here,

flowers bloom again

Birds are singing outside

Happy days are here again

A morning ray comes into my room

But still I feel so blue

Why is walking in rain not so fun
A romantic music does not turn me on
I remember those happy moments
But still I feel so blue

Night falls again
Twinkling star all over sky
The countenance of the moon so bright
It gives me the hopeful light
I see the bright future ahead
Still I feel so blue

Remembering April Uprising: Revolution is still On

Nation is celebrating first anniversary of success of April Uprising. Last year in April We, the people came to street to show the world our commitment, loyalty and thirst for democracy. We, the people shooed the autocratic King from power and reinstate the people' power.

After the success of April Uprising, a year has passed. But little has been done to meet the aspiration of people. We didn't come on street just to throw the king from power neither we came on street to bring politicians to power. We came on street to bring peace, democracy and prosperity. We came on street to establish rule of law and take Nepal to path of development. But little has been achieved. Neither the power hungry king has been punished for his crime against humanity nor any of his ministers have been punished. Neither the Rayamajhi Committee's report has been made public nor implemented.

There have been some significant changes of course. Reinstated House of Representatives (HoR) stripped king from all executive power. We saw Interim Constitution and inclusion of Maoist in the government. We saw the end of decade long armed and bloody insurgency and ray of hope for New Federal Democratic Republic Nepal.

Alas!! even though armed conflict was officially declared over, innocent blood continued to flow. More than 29 people died in Terai Revolution and more 28 Maoist cadres died later from ruthless acts of Madhesi Janaadhikar Forum's activists. Many continues to suffer from daily band and hadtal.

Now Constituent Assembly's poll seems to be uncertain. People are asking what's difference between last year and now? Only difference is Maoists are in parliament and so called People's War is over. But there are numerous players who are still in armed struggle.

This year is going to be very tough for Nepal. Nepal needs strong commitment and acts from its leaders to solve political problems but also cooperation and support from civil society. In past year we sensed the freedom but not duties, we understood democracy but not respect. Let's stop complaining and start acting watch dogs. Let's push leaders to fulfil the commitments they made and meet our aspirations. Lets understand our duties not only rights and lets commit ourselves for New Nepal. The Uprising is not over yet, We just have passed through little steps. Still there's lot to do.

Extra Innings: Changes due to Cricket

300 - Battle for Freedom

300 is movie that tells the story of freedom and liberty, struggle for pride and dignity. Set in the era of 480 B.C., 300 narrates the story of the 300 Spartan warriors led by their King Leonidas (played by Gerald Butler) who stand up against a million Persian army awaiting to conquer Sparta.

The movie begins with the arrival of Persian messenger trying to persuade King Leonidas to surrender without war. King kills him. According to Spartan rules, he has to go to evil god to consult on war because no Spartan Kings had begun war without consulting the evil god. But already bought by Persian Empire, they predict that going to war means destruction and END of Sparta. So Sparta refuses King Leonidas's request of war against Persia. So King Leonidas supported by his 300 warriors went to defend Sparta against nearly million Persian armies.

Then the battle begins which is a technically accomplished series of fight scenes. The visuals themselves, even when not involving bloodshed or carnage, are a sight to behold. Much like the previous Miller adaptation Sin City, 300 was made with generous help from all digital environments. At last 300 people kills as many Persians as anyone can think beyond. King Leonidas and his 300 warriors are perished by Persian army but the war makes Spartans realize the beauty of freedom and dignity. So Sparta goes to war and the movie ends.

There’s plenty of blood and body parts being chopped off and some of the best choreographed fight scenes on film, but it’s all stylized. Use of stop-motion to capture specific moments during battle helps the film achieve a painting come to life tone. The steamy scene of King Leonidas and Queen Gorgo acts as balance for the violence (though was for few seconds or Cinema Hall cut it dunno). Movie has shown many mythical character that might not exist at all (like man who is more like creature or creature with blades as arms etc.). It has also shown use of gun powder by Persian Army even (though I don't know whether use of gun powder dates back to that period?). Despite all these, movie is excellent.

Acting wise, everyone has delivered superb performance of bringing ancient history alive onscreen. As King Leonidas, Gerald Butler has delivered real leadership. Butler makes Leonidas into a fully fleshed out character and not just a fighting machine. Lena Headey’s equally terrific as the tough Queen Gorgo. She's sensual as lover and tough as Queen. Director Zack Snyder has created a movie that works on many different levels. Mesmerizing and breathtaking, 300 is surely No. 1 Action Movie of this year. Overall 300 is a must see movie.

Drinking green tea could help in the fight against HIV

Issues on HIV has always been one of my interest. Being myself working in BCC (Behaviour Change Communication) and ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) field, also focuing on HIV, I always try to update myself on such issues. This news from BBC Online is really exciting in the fight against HIV. Read on and if you feel to write something, please go on.

BBC NEWS:
Scientists found a component called epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) prevents HIV from binding to immune system cells by getting there first. Once EGCG has bound to immune system cells there is no room for HIV to take hold in its usual fashion. However, experts said the joint UK and US work, which appears in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, was at a very preliminary stage.

Researcher Professor Mike Williamson, of the University of Sheffield, said: "Our research shows that drinking green tea could reduce the risk of becoming infected by HIV, and could also slow down the spread of HIV. "It is not a cure, and nor is it a safe way to avoid infection, however, we suggest that it should be used in combination with conventional medicines to improve quality of life for those infected.

"Future research is also currently under way in order to determine how much effect can be expected from different amounts of tea."

More work needed

Keith Alcorn, senior editor of the Aidsmap web service, said tests on animals would be needed before any conclusions could be safely drawn on the potential protective effect of drinking green tea. "This study only looks at the ability of a chemical in green tea to block HIV binding to human CD4 immune cells in the test tube.

"Many substances shown to prevent HIV infection in the test tube turn out to have little or no effect in real life, so I think there's a long way to go before anyone should rely on green tea to protect against HIV infection." Lisa Power, head of policy at the HIV charity, Terrence Higgins Trust said: "Condoms keep HIV at bay. Anything that boosts your immune system is beneficial for people with HIV, but green tea can't be a substitute for proper medication and prevention techniques."

Green tea has been linked to a positive effect on a wide range of conditions, including heart disease, cancer and Alzheimer's.

Why credit cards are priceless?

There are loads of advertisement of creditcards that says, like moments, cards too are priceless. Used to wonder why they call it priceless....in the sea of web, i found this reasyy cool article why credit cards are priceless. Go to http://bhupen.k6yar.com/ and see his more articles....till then enjoy this.

**********************************************************************

Ask anyone, “Is having a credit card worth it?”

They will probably tell you, yes and no.

Yes:
if you would like to build your credit score and buy something online and also to use it in case of emergency.

No:
If you already have money in the bank.

If you are not following me, please read this : In developed countries such as the United States, UK, etc, a person’s creditworthiness is computed by agencies based on your history of purchases and bank balance. Banks work with agencies to secure their transactions such as giving someone credits / loans. Lets face it. Will you give your hard earned or even free money to someone for a while then expect them to pay back to you on time. In Nepal, only a handful of people have credit cards, the monthly payments on credit card bills are made by rich parents, fancy jobs, and corruptions. Nearly 99% of Nepalese do not own a credit card. In Nepal there are no credit agencies. Credit cards are issued by banks verifying bank balance and reference from employer.

Doing shopping online without a credit card is next to impossible, although there are some websites (such as amazon.com) that allows you to purchase items without using a credit card. It offers the option “pay on delivery”. But this is only limited to particular shipping destinations such as within the country; like United States or Canada. So most online transactions do require you to have at least a debit or credit card. So having at least one of them helps.

To build credit score, you start by giving your money to a bank. That amount remains as your credit limit. Your purchase and monthly payments goes to the credit agencies database. As your history is reviewed, they assign you a credit score. Nobody knows just how they do this or what kind of formula is set, generally speaking paying well ahead of the due date, purchasing costly items and paying them well ahead of the monthly due date gives better score. Getting the wrong credit card can have you pay bunches of interest, late fees, activation fees, etc. You know it was your money and that even makes you depressed! Terms and conditions of a contract are written using the smallest possible fonts - so it’s worth buying a magnifying glass to read it thoroughly before getting credit cards! You will be glad you did it! You might also use it to read other advertisements by such as Direct TV, Virizon, Cingular, and you name it. Anything that looks so unreal has a string attached to it and they are hidden in those tiny fonts!

Ok, lets come to the point. I thought this would be an interesting way to finish this post.
An Advertisement (Ad) that we all are too familiar with….

Activation Fee $ 49.99
Annual Account Maintenance Fee $ 99,99
Interest Amount $2451.25, Rate being 20%
Balance This Month : $10512.00
Must pay this Month $250.00
Interest Amount $2451.25, Rate being 20%
bla bla bla $0.99
bla bla bla $999.99

Credit Card… It’s priceless!

In pursuit of Happiness

I have heard many people shouting how ugly this world is. "The whole world and life sucks!!", this is very common comment. People seek happiness but don’t get any. In pursuit of happiness, they have so much tantrums but forget that happiness is all around us. I too am one of them. Today also I was feeling low and lonely, loaded with my work and duties trying to find reasons to make myself smile and energetic to finish all these due stuffs. Then I came across this story, simple yet powerful. It was retrospective of how beautiful this world is.

Here goes the story this way:

A little boy wanted to meet God.
He knew it was a long trip to where God lived, so he packed his suitcase with Twinkies and a six-pack of root beer and he started his journey.
When he had gone about three blocks, he met an old woman. She was sitting in the park just staring at some pigeons.
The boy sat down next to her and opened his suitcase. He was about to take a drink from his root beer when he noticed that the old lady looked hungry, so he offered her a Twinkie. She gratefully accepted it and smiled at him. Her smile was so pretty that the boy wanted to see it again, so he offered her a root beer. Again, she smiled at him. The boy was delighted! They sat there all afternoon eating and smiling, but they never said a word. As it grew dark, the boy realized how tired he was and he got up to leave, but before he had gone more than a few steps, he turned around, ran back to the old woman, and gave her a hug.
She gave him her biggest smile ever.
When the boy opened the door to his own house a short time later, his mother was surprised by the look of joy on his face.
She asked him, "What did you do today that made you look so happy?" He replied, "I had lunch with God." But before his mother could respond, he added, "You know what? She's got the most beautiful smile I've ever seen!"
Meanwhile, the old woman, also radiant with joy, returned to her home. Her son was stunned by the look of peace on her face and asked, "Mother, what did you do today that made you so happy?" She replied, "I ate Twinkies in the park with God." However, before her son responded, she added, "You know, he's much younger than I expected."

The term God here is just a symbol of happiness. Some people find solace in the name of god, some in others. But the main point is, "Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around. Like we don't know what God will look like or he even exits or not, we sometimes push away the happiness that's around us."

People come into our lives for a reason, a season, or a lifetime. Embrace all equally! Pursuit happiness in people you love and their company then you will see how beautiful the world is.

Good News: Load-Shedding reduced to 24 Hrs/week

Owing to lesser electricity demand than what had been forecasted for the last one month period, which led to the saving of considerable volume of water in the reservoir feeding the two Kulekhani projects in Makawanpur district, Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) is reducing nationwide load-shedding by 16 hours per week effective from Wednesday.

There  will be no load-shedding during nights from Wednesday, while the daytime load-shedding will remain constant. This means every consumer will face only 24 hours of load-shedding per week from tomorrow, as opposed to 40 hours per week they had been facing, officially speaking.

Lower demand than what had been expected for the month of Falgun conserved approximately six meters of water in the Kulekhani reservoir. The reservoir feeds the two Kulekhani projects that have a total capacity of 92 megawatts and are the only storage projects in the country.

Weeks of violence in terai, which led to suspension of activities in various industrial towns in the southern belt, contributed to saving of power - one of the major factors behind the reduction in load-shedding hours.

Additionally, the 70-megawatt Marsyangdi project that had been shut two weeks ago for repairs of a draft tube at its tailrace has resumed operation from Tuesday.

Goher Mumtaz of JAL's Last Words

Dont' got to the title, its a section of the Magazine "in YOur face"' that comes in the last page. I had a chance to interview Goher Mumtaz from JAL and here you people get to read it. It got published in IN YOUR Face Feb 07 Edition. This is the un-edited version so exclusive to YOUNNOVATION.

Good-looking and talented Goher Mumtaz is the creative mind behind the astonishing success of the Pakistani band Jal. He is the lead and rhythm guitarist, lyricist and composer from Faisalabad. Multifaceted Goher has also proven his vocal skills in songs like Dil Haarey and Panchhi. He sold his cycle to get a guitar when he was 21. Gohar first came up with the songs of Aadat back when he broke his leg in Faisalabad and was bed-ridden for 6 months. Unexplored by the media but he is the real man at the rear of all the success and popularity Jal has tasted.

Last time you were not satisfied with the lyrics you jotted/wrote?

No such experience as the lyrics is discussed amongst us and if anything is not satisfactory or incompatible it is discarded or replaced by something convincing. I don’t really remember a situation to be unsatisfied of as I’m pretty convinced about writing the stuff.

Last time you were really impressed by your own song?

I must say it’s Teri Yaad and title song from our album Aadat, there is another song from our new album Payal but I’ll disclose it only after the album releases.

Last time you all really felt like home in a foreign land?

Difficult question…Ah… I think it has to be New Delhi, India because its close to culture of Pakistan and the girls there are similar to Pakistan. The people the whole environment is like that of Pakistan.

Last time you were bored by a concert/performance you had to deliver?

Something that we had to perform was last time in Road Killa, India. We had to take a flight from Delhi to Calcutta which as two and half hours, there we were told that the place was at a 6 hours drive from Calcutta to Road Killa but it turned out to be a 13 hour drive. We were all tired and didn’t even get chance to change. I didn’t shave and was in my sandal and the ‘sardion wali’ cap, but we did perform.

Last time you were bored by a concert/performance you had to witness?

Actually, I’m a crasher kind of a person. I like going to concerts and things. I used to go to concerts by Junoon, Strings, Fuzon, EP back in Pakistan. I was convinced by all of the bands performances. Above all I liked Mikal Hasan Band’s performance. I love the performances.

Last time you argued over shade/goggles?

I’m a very good shopper. I know how to shop. Last time I bought a shade was in New Delhi, I paid IC Rs. 7000 for it and that’s worth it.

Last time you debated over Pakistani music?

Just last night, I had a discussion with the organizers. We had a huge discussion over the music, what is the importance of music, what kind a content makes a song successful. We had a huge debate on Urdu, Pakistani bands like all the bands including Jal.

Last time you visited your own official website?

(Giggling)… A month back, we had made a few changes at that point of time and visited to check the updates are done right by the webmaster.

Last time you composed/arranged a song not for Jal?

None, I’ll always compose for Jal. My every song will be for Jal.

Last time you thought of changing profession?

Actually…I’m satisfied with what I’m doing. I think I don’t want to change it. The respect and fame we have got is something totally unexpected. I’m definitely happy with it and this is what I always wanted to do. There are some ups and downs but I’m pretty much Ok with it.

Last time you thought of climbing Mt. Everest?

I’ve never been to Mt. Everest, How can I… But I really want to see Mt. Everest. Next time when we will come probably if February in Pokhara for the concert I’ll see it at least. This time due to lack of time it was not possible.

Last time you bunked classes?

Ah…I’m doing my MBA, I’ve taken up my semester break which started in September. I always bunk classes as we have to do a lot of things including practice and concerts. I regret being a celebrity as all the professors know my face and my other friends can try proxy attendance and still get away with it, but I can’t.

Last time you had a nightmare?

Nightmare… I’m really tensed about the happenings from the last one week. We came to Nepal and want to take good memories back to Pakistan but the circumstances are not that good. It is our first time in Nepal but the events haven’t turned out as planned.

Last time you really felt like a rock star?

Well, for being a rock star you got to have the attitude. And I think… I don’t know people can tell that I am a rock star but I believe that I don’t have an attitude to behave like a rock star. I’m kind of introvert, but when I’m in a bad mood I become the rock star. So I try not to get in that mood.

Last time you three jammed for hours without knowing about it?

Lot of times, back in Pakistan we jammed for 2 o’ clock. When me, Farhan, Salman and Shazi we all forget to see our watches and try to sing and sing. It has happened many times, last time was before coming to Nepal we were in India. It happened one and half months back.

Last time you liked being lectured at?

It was just last week when I went to Pakistan Embassy here in Nepal. He didn’t give a lecture but he guided me really well. I really liked that as there was someone who took care of us. He guided me like a father.

Last time you liked being in a class?

It was our class of Macro economics when the professor asked me to give a presentation. I did it very well and got the highest marks in the class, it was good.

Last time you were home and had food cooked by your mom?

It was on 23rd November, when it was my younger sister’s birthday party. There was a family gathering and I enjoyed it very much.

Last time you said this is the last time?

I just said that. (Giggle...) I actually think a lot of about other persons. Persons who are really close to me I’m over-worried about them. Last time I had to think so deeply about a person but I cannot help it.

Last words for our readers.

Well read this interview. I would like to say thanks for the love and respect you have given. Thanks to all people who came to the concert, the turnout was huge. This is the first time, next time we will come we will have more concerts. I want to tell them to come to our concert. Enjoy and thank you.

Confusing Choice

Ever since I passed my +2 exams, I have found myself in dilemma. The tough question has been how I should proceed and what I should study now. After passing S.L.C., I decided to join Humanities stream to study journalism. My clear intention was to become a journalist one day. However, after two years I find myself again asking the same questions again and again. That clear intention is now being blurred. Sometimes I feel I should join social sciences, sometimes development studies, sometimes environmental sciences; and again there's a question of courses available in Nepal. From beginning of my +2 days, I always said that I'll continue my studies here in Nepal and won't go abroad. So I didn't do TOEFL, SAT, IELTS or whatever though my friends and family insisted. I always ignored them and told them I'll stay here in Nepal.

You may wonder why I am confused though I've already decided to study journalism. Well due to conflict and restriction on free press this field is becoming more and more insecure and less fruitful. This is what my parents think. They don't want me to continue with journalism. I tried to pursued them but they shut their ears. Instead they started to brainwash me. And the result is confusion.

Everyone is confused. The moment has come to decide about their future and here confusion has gripped everyone. So to escape this confusion my friend Utsav has decided to join the army. He is as confused as I am. Sometimes he talks about joining photojournalism, and sometimes fine arts. His latest whim is joining the army. I don't know whether he'll join the army or not but definitely he has started to do physical training and I find myself giving him company and doing the same. Not to mention I have my own purpose to do so.

I was so confused about my future that one day I asked my brother if he also felt the same. The reply was yes and he told me that whatever I do I should analyze the situation and my heart. Though mom and dad pressed him to study MBBS he joined BBA and he's doing great now. So we should listen to our heart and should possess clear way to move ahead. After his advice, I made a decision to continue journalism. But again I find myself lost in confusion. Which college should I join? And which field should I go? Print media or electronic, reporting or production? I think confusion is going to be parennial problem.

Never mind, I'll decide one day and I know that day is coming soon. But again the main point is when that the day coming? Many of my friends have already decided about their future course. Some are going abroad, some are trying for MBBS, some BE, some BBA, BBS or the courses they choose. I did have clear plans and dreams but now all are blurred. And only God knows what my destiny will be. And I am relying on one silly phrase, "Whatever happens, happens for good." and my destiny will definitely lead me ahead. Adios.

Stop Burning Tire:

Health hazards of Burning tires

This was not the first time that I saw burning tires on the streets of Kathmandu and i know it wont be the last too. I also know I am not the only one to witness this. Burning tires has been like a fashion these days. If you want to make your voice heard, you've got to burn some freaking smelly tires. Needless to say, but this fashion has some serious adverse effects on health. I am not a doctor or an environmentalist, so I am not sure about the exact health hazards that burning tires cause. So I thought of surfing the net searching for Health hazards of Burning tires which i did eventually. And finally, i ended up with this article:

"Burning Tires: Health Hazards" by Thakur Amgai.
Source: http://www.nepalnews.com (VOL. 24, NO. 10, SEPT 10 - SEPT 16 2004 ( BHADRA 25, 2061 B.S. )).

As thousands of people resort to burning tires and other stuffs during agitations and demonstrations, they are obliviously exposing their body to the risk of getting cancer, experts say. The substances used in the composition of tires as well as those formed and released during the process of burning are very likely to cause cancer. Such substances are called carcinogen.

Tires that are made up of natural and synthetic rubber and petroleum products contain 17 types of heavy metals including bromium, lead, benzene and mercury and many other organic substances. Such metals are not only carcinogens but also lead to many other health hazards like poisoning. When tires are burnt, these metals are released to the atmosphere and can easily enter the human body.

In addition, the burning itself is an undesirable process for environment and public health. As tires are composed of organic materials, the process of burning produces harmful gases like benzene, styrene and 1, 2, 3-butadine.

Not only such harmful gaseous pollutants but very small particulate matters that can enter circulatory system of our body are also released.

According to Bhusan Tuladhar, an environmentalist, while fine particulate matters enter the respiratory tract and invite problems in trachea and lungs, the ultra-fine particles which can include the heavy metals, goes to the inner lungs and enters the circulatory system. The particles that have entered the circulatory system can go to any part of the body along with the blood and cause various kinds of health hazards. Mercury can cause penetration of tissues leading to the cancer of that part while lead causes lead poisoning.

The gaseous pollutants like dioxins formed and released during the process of burning is a very potent carcinogen. "In addition to the heavy metals, dioxin is produced during the process," said Dr. Toran Sharma, an environmental scientist. "Dioxin is one of the most harmful gases in the world and it is very harmful to public health."

Although a detailed study has not been conducted about the health hazards caused by burning tires in the cities, there have been a lot of complaints of respiratory problems when people are exposed to fumes of burning tires.

The oft-repeated modus operandi during the demonstrations suggests that burning tires has emerged as a major threat to public health. Tires are burnt at almost every intersection frequently to protest various things.

The threat to the public health is aggravated by the place and situation when the tires are burnt. Says Tuladhar, "Not only that the tires are burnt in densely populated area, there are a lot of people demonstrating around places where they are burnt. So, many people are exposed to the pollutants."

Children are more vulnerable to the risk created by burning tires. They breathe faster and take in more air and their lungs and other system is not well developed.

Seemingly the problem created by burning tires is a short-term problem. But it has long-term impacts in the environment and public health. The dust of the debris and burnt materials remain in the streets for days after being burnt and are released to the atmosphere every time a vehicle plies over it. People are re-exposed to such substances and they breathe in the particulate matters when they walk or drive in the streets even days after the burning.

Moreover, when such substances are washed away by rainwater, it also pollutes the water. The heavy metals present in the tires never disappear and it is hazardous to plants and animals in water as well. The water containing such heavy metals is unfit for drinking and cooking. It also disturbs the ecosystem.

This article is dedicated to all the dumb heads who feel burning tires is a "REAL FUN"

Friendship: Relax Relationship

I was cruising through web pages, and i landed on one article at bignepal.com. I found this article very nice, so sharing through blog. Hope you will enjoy it. If you want to go to original page, scroll below and click on link. Enjoy the Story!!

I've been spending some amount of time in my thinking to explain to myself what a friend is, and is not. Friendship is the bigger statement. Lots of people are lovers but aren't friends. Lots of people are relatives and aren't friends. Lots of people work together who aren't friends. You can appreciate or admire someone, but that doesn't make them a friend.

We're take friendship as a casual word, but sometimes things happen that take the casualness out of it. When I had my near-death experience last year and the following long recuperation, I had a lot of time to think about what makes someone a friend. If they are scared of you when you need help, sorry, that's not friendship. If their attitude is "for better or worse," if they stick by you through thick and thin, that's when you can tell it's friendship. I do have some friends, but not as many as I thought.

My uncle used to say no matter what your family is there for you when you need them. Last time we talked about this, after my catastrophe, I said him "we know that's not true." And there was a time, when he really needed me that I didn't come through for him. I remember hanging out in my happy suburban house, with the statuesque friend, and the freshly minted fortune, and not getting on a damned plane to help him through the loss of his GF. Luckily I did get to apologize for that, in this lifetime. As always, with me at least, he didn't bear a grudge, he just waved it off as not important.

Most people use the term Friend far too casually. But if they had reason to pause, to think if so and so is really a friend, they would realize they either don't know (the relationship hasn't been tested), or they are not.

I don't have a tidy answer about me and friendship. Sometimes we were friends, and other times, clearly, not. But I guess there's something remarkable in two people overcoming the barriers to friendship that family imposes, especially one as brutal as ours, to find some real communication at some point. Just to connect, for just a few moments, is rare, exceptionally rare.
